Senator Nick Collins.

Dear Friends,.

Welcome to the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast in 2023. We are thrilled and thankful to have all of you here today.

For more than seven decades, the St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast has acted as a platform for cultural influencers and the community to unite and commemorate our Irish roots in Boston and across the Commonwealth. As we assemble to honor the Irish patron saint, St. Patrick, by indulging in the traditional Irish customs of music, dance, and mirth, let us bear in mind that the liberties we enjoy today – freedom of speech, assembly, religion, and press – are deeply embedded in our Constitution. They are an integral part of our nation’s genetic makeup, yet they come at a cost.

Today, we commemorate not only the significant past of the Revolutionary War but also the momentous event of the Evacuation of British Troops from Boston. On this day of Evacuation, we pay tribute to the brave individuals of the United States Armed Forces and their families. These altruistic citizens, irrespective of their race or creed, enlist themselves to safeguard our nation, its principles, and its liberties. It is due to their dedicated service and unwavering sacrifice that we are able to revel in this jubilation. And let us not forget, regardless of our backgrounds or origins, on St. Patrick’s Day, we are all embraced by the Irish spirit! Céad Míle Fáilte!
